Performance Company: 2023/24 Season

Description

2023/24 opportunity deets coming soon!

GDSC’s newest addition is tailored for students who not only look to advance, but who also have a passion to perform! Our Performance Company provides committed dancers various training and performance opportunities. Thus far, our company has participated in Disneyland’s Performing Arts OnStage, a performance at the 2019 Blazers vs. Pelicans game and 2020 Blazers vs. Magic game, as well as a 45-minute performance on the waterfront at Portland Rose Festival’s City Fair, June 2019

Interested in performing in Disneyland? Join us for the 2023/24 season! Details to come.

For 2021/22, GDSC planned a trip to Disneyland for a performance opportunity through Dance the Magic, as well as more local experiences. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Disneyland trip due to COVID. This opportunity is still on the table and will be organized once COVID settles, mandates lift and programs officially reopen. Stay tuned for official information regarding next dance season’s scheduled workshops and dance-related opportunities in Bend, Portland and/or Eugene. (For financial assistance, fundraising options will be available starting the beginning of each dance season.)

This group currently contains six disciplines: Contemporary, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, musical theater and tap. There is one level in contemporary; one level in hip hop; two levels in jazz; two levels in lyrical; one level in musical theater; and one level in tap. Company members do not need to be in all disciplines in order to be a part of the group. Many students choose one discipline to master and are still considered an integral part of our company.

Current Requirements

2023/24 requirement updates coming soon!

Class requirements depend on what level and discipline a student is in and can be found in our current handbook. (If you would like to review a copy of our Performance Company handbook, please email us at gottadancestudioandco@gmail.com.) Other requirements include summer classes: one week to review technique and one week to learn all choreography. These camps typically take place mid-end August. Stay tuned for dates. It is important that all students who are invited onto the team attend these mandatory weeks to catch up on skills after the long summer break, as well as learn ALL choreography for each discipline. Because we learn all choreography in August, performance classes are reduced to 30 minutes during both Fall and Spring sessions. Rather than learn choreography throughout the year, class time is used to establish formations and polish numbers. A reduction in time for performance classes not only helps in scheduling for those students in multiple disciplines, but also allows time on the schedule for competition classes.

Students who are part of GDSC’s Performance Company will need to sign an agreement that is non-negotiable. This agreement includes information on dates, fees, as well as class, workshop and event requirements. If you would like to review a copy of our Performance Team Agreement, please contact admin.

***Each Competition Team and Performance Company discipline will learn the same choreography for each level. (Choreography between programs will only vary in formations and dance length.) This is to accommodate students who would like to participate in both programs, as costuming fees can add up. In this way, we are keeping to one costume per level of each discipline within both programs. In addition to costuming, Competition and Performance students will need to purchase a team jacket. Check it out here! Price is subject to change.***
